Report: Manager makes 'express request' to his board to get £4.5m Wolves player signed this summer

One Wolves player has emerged as an ‘express request’ for a manager, with the summer transfer window opening very soon.

Wolves fans are hoping to see the club have a productive window, after seeing the team finish 14th in the Premier League in 2023/24.

Wolves could have finished much higher had the squad been a bit bigger to deal with all the injuries.

There were certainly positive signs throughout the campaign though, and Gary O’Neil needs to be back by his superiors.

Rodrigo Gomes is coming in, and Wolves’ squad may also see the return of some players on loan.

Yerson Mosquera is one such player, but it has been reported that he is very coveted by Marcelino, who is the manager of Villarreal.

Last season, Mosquera finished up his loan spell with FC Cincinnati, before heading to Villarreal in January for the second half of 2023/24.

He had done well at the MLS club and was one of the best defenders in the Eastern Conference.

He then went to La Liga and after taking a little bit of time to adapt, he enjoyed another really good run of games.

Mosquera made 18 appearances for the club, and chipped in with three goals. But was regularly praised on social media for his performances and he has seemingly left a lasting impression on Marcelino.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Colombian is wanted back by Marcelino who has made an ‘express request’ to his board to sign the Wolves man.

O’Neil needs to observe Mosquera

Clearly Mosquera did really well at Villarreal for Marcelino to now see him as a priority target.

However, Wolves cannot be too hasty. He was signed for £4.5 million in 2021 and at the time, Wolves felt they had landed a gem. He then suffered that serious hamstring injury, and he has been working hard to come back from that ever since.

It sounds like he is now in a great place to kick on, and O’Neil will surely be taking a close look at him in pre-season once he returns from the Copa America.

He is a player O’Neil has been keeping an eye on from afar, and feels as though there’s potential for him to make an impact next season.
