Braga now want to sign £3m Wolves player as Rodrigo Gomes prepares to leave them for Molineux - journalist

SC Braga has reportedly registered their interest in a player from Wolves, as Rodrigo Gomes prepares to complete his move to Molineux.

It was reported yesterday that an agreement has been reached between Braga and Wolves for the £12.7 million transfer of Gomes.

It was then claimed that the player will be having his medical on Tuesday.

The move is expected to go through and Wolves fans are delighted to see some rare early business, over a very exciting young player.

Gomes should be announced in the coming days, and it looks like Braga are already looking to use the money from his sale to invest in another wide man.

And interestingly, they’ve set their sights on a player from Wolves…

Last season, Gomes played on loan at Estoril.

He was one of the best young players in the Portuguese top-flight, and Braga have managed to get a good fee as a result of his performances.

They won’t be having him back, but they are now looking to sign a new wide player, and journalist Bruno Andrade has claimed they are after Chiquinho.

He wrote on X: “Chiquinho, at first, does the pre-season with Wolves, but SC Braga wants to move forward as soon as possible to close the deal: loan with option to purchase. Conversations are ongoing. Sporting, in turn, has only carried out one survey so far (through intermediaries). To see…”

Chiquinho, like Gomes, also spent last season out on loan, playing for Farmalicao.

He made 31 appearances and scored five goals and made four assists.

This claim follows reports that Sporting CP, the Portuguese champions, are also interested in Chiquinho. Wolves would apparently be willing to sell the youngster – who was signed for £3 million – for around £8.5 million.

An ideal scenario for Wolves

So Chiquinho now has at least two clubs trying to sign him and that can only be good news for Wolves if the club do indeed want to sell.

Such a decision would be questionable on the face of it. But perhaps there is a desire to turn a quick profit.

With two teams keen, there is potential for a bidding war to break out.

Braga may hope that selling Gomes to Wolves could serve them well in negotiations over Chiquinho. But certainly, before anything is decided, Gary O’Neil needs to get Chiquinho in front of him in pre-season to see if the winger has something to offer for next season. From what Andrade has reported, it does sound as though the manager is keen to cast his eye over him.
