An eight-year-old schoolgirl has walked an amazing 100 miles for charity in honour of the bond she shared with her grandmother.
Pippa Bartholomew said Nanny Sue was special, adding: “I miss baking, drawing, laughing and going on adventures with my kind, caring and strong Nanny Sue who died last year.”
And so she initially set out to raise £250 by walking 50 miles… but then kept on walking.
Pippa eventually clocked up 100 miles around Hungerford, Lambourn, Baydon and Aldbourne, walking anything up to 18 miles a day each day in May.
And her total to date has topped £3,000, far exceeding her dreams.
Pippa, a pupil at Aldbourne St Michael’s School in Aldbourne, said: “My Nanny Sue had Crohn’s disease for a very long time and I want to raise money to help other people who live with Crohns.
“It seems that other charities are more popular so I wanted to do something to change that.”
She said on her fundraising page: “Thank you for sponsoring me, I’ve very grateful.”
Nanny – Sue Taylor – lived in Lambourn Woodlands.
Family and friends threw a party for Pippa at the Terrace View Cafe in Charnham Park, Hungerford, to mark her achievement.
Her proud mum, Lucy Bartholomew, said: “She has walked every day with a smile on her face, even when her legs were aching.”
Pippa’s total currently stands at more than £3,000 – a far cry from the £250 she initially aimed for.
