Rangers 'want to buy' £5m rated colossus with two-horse race for defender

Rangers are hoovering up players who are out of contract or those who are approaching the end of their deals.

Albion Rrahmani has been linked with a big money move to Ibrox to join Philippe Clement’s squad but there haven’t been many other rumours where large fees have been involved.

There has been a new name emerge though, new for this window but one that has been mentioned in the past in Nathaniel Adjei with Rangers said to be keen to buy the Hammarby defender.

Rangers linked to £5m rated Nathaniel Adjei – again

The 6ft 4inch Ghana youth cap had been on loan to Lorient in Ligue 1 with the French outfit having an option to buy the 21-year old colossus.

Unfortunately, they got relegated to the second tier and the deal was cancelled.

Earlier this season with Rangers scouting him, Adjei was asked about the speculation linking him with a move to top sides around Europe, as reported by Sport Bladet:

“It feels good. I really put in a lot of hard work last year, got the confidence of the coaches and it ended well. So it feels good with all the speculation.

“I have always wanted to play in a bigger league. And if the time is right… why not now? I’m ready for anything. But it may also happen that I stay in Hammarby.

“France is interesting. There are many big names who have played in French football. Many talents. So I am open to take the next step to such a league. I’m ready.”

Adjei has the qualities needed to help shore up Rangers defence

Adjei’s agent spoke about the prospect of playing in the Premier League but accepted that Sweden’s Alsvensken might be too big a leap without somewhere in between.

Despite his height, Adjei’s strengths lie predominantly in his ability on the ball.

He’s dominant in the air and in duels, however, he is so comfortable on the ball that he is capable of playing at right-back as well as in the middle of defence.

Think a young version of Virgil van Dijk and you get the picture.

When you add in that he has an outstanding burst of speed, Adjei has very few noticeable weaknesses.

Connor Goldson’s days at Rangers are looking more numbered by the day.

A £5m fee is said to be what the Swede’s are looking for with Expressen claiming that Anderlecht are also vying for his signature:

“Glasgow Rangers and RSC Anderlecht have informed Hammarby IF that they want to buy Nathaniel Adjei.

“A first suggestion is to wait shortly. Bajen requires just over six million euros to sell the centre-back this summer.”

Defence is an area that will need to be strengthened and several players have been named as possible targets.

That Adjei has been on Rangers radar in the past suggests that he is an individual who the club have been keeping an eye on for some time like Oscar Cortes.

With Clinton Nsiala already signed, the back four could look entirely different, especially if Goldson and James Tavernier end up in Saudi Arabia.
