Rangers 'keen' to get deal completed for Damian Garcia: Heart and Hand

Rangers are ticking along nicely in the transfer market so far with Nils Koppen working his way down a lengthy shopping list.

Philippe Clement’s squad needs a lot of work and the manager will be happy to see the new faces coming in with a younger, more athletic profile.

Clinton Nsiala has been confirmed with Yusuf Kabadayi tipped to be next, however, David Edgar, speaking on Heart and Hand’s daily update for Tuesday the 11 of June, has revealed who Rangers are really keen to get tied up.

Rangers looking to seal Damian Garcia signing

If everything goes to plan, the manager will have two new wingers available for next season before the window is already open.

Jefte has been signed to replace Borna Barisic but there is a big hole in midfield that needs to be filled.

According to Edgar, Rangers are pushing hard for Damian Garcia:

“He’s out of contract at the end of December, so there will be a fee involved to bring him here.

“Rangers are very keen on him, there’s been reports in the press about him and Rangers are keen to get that deal completed.

“So, again, you’ll have to wait and see.

“Another market that we maybe haven’t looked at too much in the past is South America but that seems to be changing.”

Why Garcia is a must have signing for Philippe Clement

Nicolas Raskin is currently the only player who could be classed as a number six in terms of style of play, however, he is more of a hybrid rather than an out and out defensive midfielder.

Interestingly, on his senior Ivory Coast debut, Mohamed Diomande was tasked with a deeper role to the one that we have seen him play for Rangers but he would be unlikely to be asked by Philippe Clement to do this.

In the Scottish Premiership, Rangers lost too many goals to counter attacks and after initially cutting teams off higher up the park, the midfield seemed incapable of putting out fires as the season went on.

Given Clement’s initial impact and style of play, it looked like the drop off in performance was player related rather than down to a change of message from the manager.

Garcia isn’t a square peg in a round hole, he is a natural defensive midfielder who hasn’t been shifted from somewhere else or a hybrid, the 20-year old is a player Rangers having been watching.

His contract status means that the Uruguay youth international could be a bargain given his performances on their way to winning the Under-20 World Cup.

No wonder Rangers are keen to get the deal done.
