What Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz posted on Instagram after Brazil’s draw v USA

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz might have played his final game for the club.

It has been well-documented that the 26-year-old could be headed for the exit door this summer after five years in the Midlands.

Juventus are seemingly closing in on his signature as he participates for Brazil ahead of Copa America this summer.

Douglas Luiz started Brazil’s most recent and dramatic win over Mexico and he came off the bench during his side’s 1-1 friendly draw against the USA on Wednesday.

It seems as though, when Brazil kick off their Copa America campaign, Luiz will have to settle for a place on the bench.

Manager Dorival Júnior seems to prefer Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta and Wolves’ Joao Gomes ahead of the Aston Villa man.

Nonetheless, after Brazil’s draw against the USA in Florida, Luiz took to Instagram to react to his side’s final warm-up match before they begin their opening game against Costa Rica on June 25.

“All together and in the same direction,” wrote Luiz.

Douglas Luiz has been a brilliant servant for Aston Villa

When Luiz first joined Villa in 2019, they had just earned promotion to the Premier League and were trying to re-establish themselves in England’s top flight.

His first Premier League start saw him score a wonder goal against Bournemouth, but Villa would still go on to lose that game.

Many would agree that the first six months were a struggle for the former Manchester City star, but post-pandemic, he was a level above and one of Villa’s best players.

Under Smith, Luiz showed so much promise, with his only blip coming under Steven Gerrard, but who didn’t struggle under his stewardship?

Before taking his game to a whole new level under Unai Emery, including guiding the team to the Champions League.

If that’s his parting gift to the club, then fans will be very, very grateful indeed.
