Liverpool's Diogo Jota says Manchester United have a player who's even better than him at shooting

Liverpool star Diogo Jota believes he’s not as good at shooting as one Manchester United player.

The Portugal international is a terrific footballer. He has always been among the goals at Liverpool and is among their most important players when he’s fit.

Jota’s finishing is arguably his strongest trait, but he believes one Manchester United star is better than him in that area of the game.

Diogo Jota says Bruno Fernandes and one former Manchester United star are better than him at shooting

Manchester United have a number of top-quality players, which is why it was a big surprise to see them finish eighth in the table in the 2023/24 season.

The Red Devils, however, showed their class in the FA Cup final against Manchester City, and that victory has helped Erik ten Hag keep his job.

Manchester United will look to rebuild and be even better next season, and skipper Bruno Fernandes will be their most important player.

The Portugal international gets unfairly criticised at times, but he is still United’s best player. He scored 15 goals and provided 13 assists last season, which is a terrific return for a midfielder.

Jota knows Fernandes very well having played with him in the Portugal national team.

He has now claimed that the Red Devils captain is better at shooting than he is. He ranked himself third, Fernandes second and former Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as the best.

“Oof! I might have to go last here. Cristiano, Bruno and me,” Jota told Goal when he was asked to rank the three players based on their shooting.

Jota’s comments about Fernandes and Manchester United in 2020 still stand true

Fernandes has done so much for Manchester United since he joined them.

The Portuguese midfielder has scored 79 goals and provided 66 assists for the Red Devils over the years, and he is the one who pushes everyone on the pitch.

When Jota was still at Wolves, he was asked if Fernandes was United’s best player. The now-Liverpool man quickly claimed that he is actually the ‘most ambitious’ player at Old Trafford.

“I don’t know if he is the best [player at United] but he’s the most ambitious. And that makes a difference,” Jota told Record in 2020.

“You can clearly see the difference between United with and without Bruno Fernandes. He takes on the responsibility and aspires for more than what they are doing.

“I think they owe him a lot already. And that is not only related to his quality, but also to his ambition and personality.”

If all the players at Manchester United shared Fernandes’ ambition and passion for the game, the Red Devils probably would’ve finished a lot higher than they did in the 2023/24 season.
