"These over-the-horizon radars detect any ballistic missile, whether nuclear or not," Budanov explained, affirming the action as "absolutely the right thing to do" and noting the radar would be out of commission for six months.

The focus on radar stations followed a series of successful Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries, as Ukraine's Armed Forces targeted components of Russia's nuclear warning system. Notably, HUR drones struck the Kontainer radar near Kovylkino, Mordovia, on April 11 and 17, and hit the Voronezh-DM radar in Armavir, Russia, about 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine, on May 24. Following this, on May 26, they attacked the Voronezh-M radar in Orsk, Orenburg Oblast, marking a record distance of 1,800 kilometers for such operations.

While Ukraine has not officially confirmed the reasons behind these strategic attacks, sources from NV have indicated that they were orchestrated by HUR. Budanov did not provide further details on the operations.
