Striker now says he is ready to make a big move this summer amid reports Tottenham are preparing £40m bid

A Premier League striker has now said he is ready to make a move this summer – amid rumours Tottenham are planning to bid.

Spurs are on the hunt for a new striker amid doubts over the future of Richarlison – and Ange Postecoglou will surely be pleased as one of his supposed targets now admits he is prepared to leave his current club.

So, which striker could Tottenham soon bring to N17? Let’s take a look…

Ivan Toney says he is ready to leave Brentford

A story from Football Transfers recently claimed that Spurs are ready to make a £40m bid to sign Ivan Toney this summer, as the north Londoners aim to finally replace Harry Kane properly.

Now, the England international has revealed he is “ready” to leave Brentford if an opportunity came about.

The Brentford No.17 told talkSPORT: “It’s nice to be linked with other clubs, but I have had disappointment in the past and nothing is done until it’s done. I am still a Brentford player and I have to be focused on that and doing well for Brentford for the coming season.

“If it (a big move) was to come I would be ready regardless, but like I said I have to remain focused and not let other things and other noise get the better of me.”

Toney only scored four goals in 17 Premier League appearances last season – albeit after returning in January due to a suspension for a breach of gambling rules.

However, in the 2022/23 campaign, only Erling Haaland and Kane scored more than his 20 Premier League goals in 33 appearances, so the 28-year-old is clearly a top striker.

Tottenham well positioned

If Spurs do end up submitting this proposed £40m offer, the chances of Brentford accepting it seem high.

Thomas Frank has already admitted that Toney is likely to leave, as the striker only has 12 months remaining on his contract.

Therefore, Brentford can either cash in this summer, or risk losing the man from Northampton for nothing in 2025.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as talks between Tottenham and Toney could accelerate once he returns from UEFA EURO 2024.
