Coach Jurgen Klopp called a ‘mastermind’ has followed Pep Lijnders from Liverpool to RB Salzburg

Liverpool have seen an exodus of Jurgen Klopp’s coaching team from the club.

The Reds always knew that Klopp leaving would mean a plethora of his trusted staff going with him at the end of the season.

Pep Lijnders is keen to make a go of it as a head coach himself and has already been confirmed as the new boss at RB Salzburg.

And Lijnders will have the help of some familiar faces in Austria. Vitor Matos has been announced as the Dutchman’s assistant, with the two set to resurrect their partnership from the AXA Training Centre.

With five more of Klopp’s team also leaving Anfield, it felt likely that some more of them may end up joining Lijnders, too. As per journalist Florian Plettenberg, that’s exactly what has happened.

Andreas Kornmayer set to join RB Salzburg

It can sometimes still be overlooked just how important getting the right staff onboard at a club can be.

But with Klopp and his gang gone, Arne Slot is finding that out the hard way so far at Liverpool. On Wednesday it was reported that Slot will be blocked from bringing Feyenoord coach Etienne Reijnen with him to Anfield.

Without Reijnen and with so many of the previous team decimated, the new head coach has an uphill battle to fill the positions he needs to.

For Klopp, he assembled his perfect team across almost a decade at Liverpool. By the end, things couldn’t have been running more smoothly.

As a result, it’s understandable that Lijnders would also want to tap into that. And having worked together so closely over the years at Liverpool, the 41-year-old has called upon fitness coach Andreas Kornamyer to join him in Salzburg.

Reporter Plettenberg took to X on Wednesday evening to relay the news that Kornmayer has signed up to become the Austrian’s new performance manager.

“Andreas Kornmayer to become the new Performance Manager of RB Salzburg!” writes Plettenberg. “It’s all done and signed.

“Kornmayer, with an excellent job at Liverpool as their Head of fitness and conditioning now responsible for Red Bull.”

Jurgen Klopp Red Bull move denied

Kornmayer’s move to Salzburg will not come as a surprise. The former Bayern Munich coach could easily have stayed at Liverpool but when his departure was announced, joining Lijnders was to be expected.

At what he does, Kornmayer is one of the best in the business. When the German joined in July 2016 Klopp called him ‘an absolute mastermind’ [liverpoolfc.com] and he lived up to that description.

With Jurgen having spoken so well of the likes of Kornmayer, Lijnders and Matos, there had also seemingly been a surprise suggestion that the former Liverpool boss could move to oversee all three as part of Red Bull’s executive team.

But again reporting on X on Wednesday, journalist Plettenberg moved to deny these rumours.

“The rumors have been around for a long time. Now there’s a report that Jurgen Klopp will become the new football boss of Red Bull!” he writes.

“His agent Marc Kosicke told me for Sky: “Total nonsense. There’s nothing to it!”” Very interesting.
