Kings Court care home in Newark unveils new community defibrillator after fundraising efforts

A care home has unveiled a new community defibrillator after a year of fundraising.

Staff and residents from Kings Court care home in Newark raised over £1200, including through a charity open day and a sponsored walk.

The defibrillator has been fitted close to the carpark entrance on the Kings Court building, on Flaxley Lane.

An access code to the defibrillator will be given by the ambulance service when a member of the public calls 999.

Tarnya Fairburn, the care home manager, said: “The support we have received from our local community has been incredible, and we are beyond proud to be able to give back in this way.

“As well as our new friends and neighbours, I’d also like to give special thanks to our expert fundraiser, Julie King, who is part of our care team for organising our fantastic fundraising events.”

98-year-old resident, Joy Samuels, said: “This is an amazing achievement and will save lives if its ever needed.

“It’s a very good cause to have raised money for.”

It comes shortly after the home celebrated its first anniversary with the community and those interested in learning more about the home will have a chance during a community summer barbacue event on Saturday, July 20.
