'I am sure': Darren Bent thinks £15m player will be very keen to leave Everton permanently this summer

Everton will be doing all they can to ensure that they escape punishment this time around, with PSR inspections just around the corner.

However, they will also want to do so without recklessly sacrificing their best players under the ludicrous time frame that the Premier League has set.

So, with Jarrad Branthwaite’s future still so murky, and interest in Amadou Onana growing, it marks a fine balancing act ahead of the June 30th deadline.

Fortunately, there is some dead wood within Sean Dyche’s squad that he could look to amass some funds from.

Darren Bent backs Neal Maupay to leave Everton

Speaking live on talkSPORT just yesterday, the former Sunderland, Aston Villa and Derby County striker was rather ruthless in his assessment of one Everton asset.

After all, he is not alone in thinking that Neal Maupay has no future at Goodison Park, given the Frenchman himself has already seemingly outlined his desire to remain on loan with Brentford.

Having returned to the Gtech Community Stadium last summer, after a torrid first year with the Toffees following his £15m move, there was hope that he might revive a stuttering career.

However, Bent thinks that now the only way to do that is to depart permanently, as he claimed: ‘It almost feels like it didn’t work for him at Everton. He looks like he is comfortable at Brentford. I am sure he would like to stay there.

‘But he’s goal returns haven’t been great. He had a little spell last season when he was scoring goals, but I think his time on Merseyside is over.’

Neal Maupay could provide small PSR boost

Should Kevin Thelwell manage to convince a club to purchase Maupay permanently, whether it be for the figure they paid or something nearby, it could provide an ample and timely boost ahead of the looming PSR deadline.

All Premier League clubs have to submit their accounts ahead of the 30th of June in preparation for further inspection, the likes of which have seen the Toffees twice deducted points last campaign.

They will know all too well how difficult it can be to navigate such precarious fiscal waters, but few can deny that they have not made great strides forward in terms of their sustainability.

Maupay outlines one of the few outstanding transfer errors of the last two years, and in his sole year actually playing for Everton, he scored just one league goal all season.

Any kind of fee for his departure would be warmly welcomed, and could prove key in their race to escape further PSR backlash.
