Fabrizio Romano says Inter Miami have made their move to sign former Real Madrid and Man United player

Fabrizio Romano has claimed Inter Miami have made a move to sign a former Real Madrid and Manchester United player.

The Herons are set for a big summer in the transfer market, with the likes of Angel Di Maria already linked with a move to Inter Miami, as the Florida franchise look primed to make another superstar signing.

With Nicolas Freire out for the season, though, central defense is likely to be the main area of the squad that Inter Miami will target new signings, with Tata Martino having just two senior players in the position to call upon.

Yet it now appears that the Herons have made their move to sign a big defensive name.

Inter Miami make initial approach to sign Frane legend Raphael Varane

According to Romano on Twitter, Inter Miami have made a move for former Manchester United and Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, who has recently become a free-agent at the end of the Premier League season.

A FIFA World Cup winner with France, Varane is one of the most decorated players in modern soccer having also won four UEFA Champions League titles with Madrid, with the defender most recently lifting the FA Cup with United.

Only 31-years-old, Varane is still in the prime of his career despite recent injury issues and could be a starter for many top clubs in Europe, with Inter Miami now joining Saudi Arabian clubs in chasing the former French international.

And if Inter Miami can get their roster in order, there’s a good chance that Varane could be tempted by a move to Florida, where MLS could be suited for the defender at this stage of his career.

Varane would solve Inter Miami’s defensive issues and then some

Inter Miami gave clearly made signing a defender a priority this summer, with options few and far between for Martino if the Herons are to have a real shot at winning MLS Cup.

And Varane, if he can arrive this summer fit and healthy, would more or less solve Inter Miami’s issues at the back given just how fantastic the French defender still is having just left Premier League giants United.

Indeed, the center-back’s salary could lead to some more logistical gymnastics for Inter Miami, but if a deal can be reached within the limits of MLS’s rules, Varane could be game-changing addition for the Herons.
