Report: Player who left Liverpool in 2023 could now have contract terminated at new club

A player who left Liverpool in 2023 could already have his contract terminated.

The Reds have shown an impressively strong sense of when to offload players at the right time in recent years, allowing fan favourites such as Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to depart, with both failing to shine after leaving Anfield.

Now, Liverpool‘s decision to release a player in 2023 has been proven right even more, as his contract could now be terminated…

Werder Bremen could release Naby Keita

A story from BILD now claims that Werder Bremen could release Naby Keita.

The Guinea international – who Liverpool signed from RB Leipzig for £48m in July 2018, before letting him leave for nothing – was suspended by the German side back in April after refusing to travel to a match against Bayer Leverkusen.

In fact, the 29-year-old was already said to be a “problem” for the Bundesliga outfit way back in October due to a number of injury problems, which also plagued his time at Anfield.

Now, Keita could actually see his contract terminated.

BILD believe Werder Bremen will do that if finances allow for such a decision, although ideally, a buyer will be found as the Guinean still has two years remaining on his contract.

Whatever happens this summer, Keita’s career is going from bad to worse after Liverpool let him go – he only managed to make five appearances in all competitions last season.

Worst signing in recent times for Liverpool

Liverpool have seldom missed when it comes to recruitment in the past decade, shrewdly signing diamonds such as Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Mane, Firmino and many more.

However, Keita was a rare blot on Liverpool’s copybook – to say the least.

The man from Conakry missed a total of 122 games in his five seasons at Anfield due to injuries, and scored just 11 goals in 129 appearances for the Reds.

Fortunately, Keita was not a disturbance under Jurgen Klopp as he seems to be right now at Werder Bremen, and the Reds still secured many trophies with him in the squad, although for such a large fee, he must go down as one of the worst signings in Liverpool’s recent history.
