Report: The real reason why Benjamin Sesko decided to snub Arsenal

It has just come to light why RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko decided to snub the opportunity to join Arsenal.

Sesko has been one of the main talking points of the transfer window, with a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing him.

The 2003-born enjoyed a productive debut campaign at the Bundesliga outfit, netting 18 times whilst laying on two assists.

Though, after weeks of speculation, he ended all of that by signing a new deal, which has just been confirmed.

It has just emerged why he decided to stay.

Benjamin Sesko prioritised his development

According to GiveMeSport, Sesko decided to stay at Leipzig as he felt he’d be able to develop more under the model.

Further, the 21-year-old is in line to receive a significant increase in pay, with his contract extended to 2029.

Though, even after committing to a long-term contract, there remains a possibility that he could move on next summer.

Euro 2024 also played a pivotal role in his decision to stay, as he didn’t want any speculation during the tournament, fearing that any forthcoming move wouldn’t have been completed in time.

So, he will now continue to develop for at least another year in the Bundesliga before potentially making the step to the Premier League.

Arsenal were close to signing Benjamin Sesko

It’s thought that Arsenal were close to convincing Sesko to join this summer.

The Gunners were the most favoured destination and he greatly respected their offer, so perhaps North London may yet be his home in 12 or so months time.

Edu will just be hoping his price tag doesn’t skyrocket as that could cause a stumbling block in any future negotiations.
