Report: Cristiano Ronaldo may have just prevented Arsenal from signing ‘world-class’ player this summer

Cristiano Ronaldo may have just played a key role in Arsenal missing out on a summer transfer target.

Mikel Arteta has hardly got off to an ideal start to the summer as Arsenal have already missed out on a couple of transfer targets.

It was confirmed today that Benjamin Sesko is set to remain at RB Leipzig beyond the summer, despite interest from Arsenal.

The Gunners do have other areas to look at though, particularly at left-back and in the middle of the park, as well as the goalkeeping position.

Aaron Ramsdale looks set to push for a summer exit after falling behind David Raya in the pecking order last season.

It will leave Arsenal searching for a new Raya understudy and Cristiano Ronaldo may have just played a role in one of their targets heading elsewhere.

Ronaldo’s role in Arsenal target Wojciech Szczesny’s move to Saudi

Wojciech Szczesny is edging closer towards a switch to the Middle East. The Poland international is in advanced negotiations with Al-Nassr after receiving interest from Arsenal.

Indeed, Arteta’s men were said to be keen on bringing Szczesny back to the Emirates Stadium but such a move now looks unlikely.

And according to Alfredo Pedulla, that is mainly down to former Real Madrid star and current Al-Nassr striker Ronaldo.

It’s claimed that Szczesny preferred a switch to the Premier League over Saudi Arabia. But after a conversation with former Juventus teammate Ronaldo, he’s given Al-Nassr’s offer extra thought.

Arsenal’s goalkeeper targets after Szczesny blow

Szczesny would have represented a reliable back-up option for Arteta after establishing himself as a ‘world-class’ shot-stopper following his Arsenal exit in 2017.

With that being said, Arsenal won’t exactly be panicking as there are plenty of suitable options on the market.

Previous reports have claimed that Brighton’s Jason Steele and Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj are among their targets.
