Musician yells 'stop' as fan falls through stage during concert - 'That was so insane'

A recent Coldplay show in Athens was marred by a bizarre accident, as a fan attempted to climb onto the stage before immediately falling off and injuring themselves.

Coldplay are currently in the midst of a mammoth world tour, taking the Music of the Spheres show to adoring stadium-sized crowds across Europe all summer, before heading to Oceania this autumn. Having toured for well over 20 years, the five-piece are seasoned pros when it comes to entertaining enormous crowds – though even the chronically chilled Chris Martin couldn’t contain his shock when one fan in Athens overstepped the line, trying and failing to climb up on the stage mid-performance.

Fan with Israeli flag falls off-stage during Coldplay Athens show accident

“Stop stop stop!”, yelled Martin repeatedly, causing an abrupt end to Coldplay’s penultimate song in Athens, Greece on June 9.

The reason for the celebrity‘s sudden hesitation came in the form of a fan, whom the lead singer appeared to have clocked out of the corner of his eye. The concert-goer embarked on the stage moments before the concert’s crescendo – only to immediately lose his footing, falling from what looked to be a significant height through the stage.

Martin could only peer down at the overzealous attendee, who had disappeared below the stage in what was undoubtedly a pretty sore fall.

After profusely checking if the concertgoer was okay, and making sure he was looked after with food and drink, a shaken-up Martin scrapped what was meant to be the closing song, Biutyful, opting instead to do a solo rendition of some new material. The charismatic singer then assured the Greek crowd that the encroaching fan was just looking to be close to the band’s lead guitarist, Jonny Buckland, because he’s “so sexy”.

Stage invader reveals himself on Instagram

As it transpired, the man claiming to be the invading fan was actually a protestor – who admitted on Instagram that he didn’t even listen to Coldplay.

Guy Hochman is an Israeli social media figure, and the goal of his attention-grabbing stunt was to present the Star of David flag on stage in front of the large crowd – in what he believed would be a display of strength amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Hochman revealed that he injured a rib during the stunt, though he is not believed to have suffered any major injuries.

The political nature of his endeavor prompted a war of words in the comment sections beneath each viral video documenting the moment, particularly on TikTok.
