Report: Newcastle have now made approach for 'incredible' £60m Liverpool target

Newcastle United and Liverpool will be eager to bolster their ranks in the coming weeks and kick on following mixed 2023/24 campaigns.

The Magpies reached the Champions League last term, but the additional workload pushed their squad to the limit and it impacted on their Premier League finish.

Meanwhile, the Reds had hopes of winning multiple trophies, but had to settle for just the Carabao Cup after falling short in the league and Europa League.

Now, Newcastle have now reportedly made an approach for a £60million attacker who has also been linked with Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

The player in question is Michael Olise and, according to Sky Sports News, the Magpies have made contact with Crystal Palace over the 22-year-old.

As well as Newcastle, Chelsea have reportedly approached the Eagles about signing Olise, and the Blues are apparently aware of interest from other clubs.

Earlier this month, Leeds Live claimed that Liverpool have ended their interest in Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville and are now prioritising a swoop for Olise instead.

What could Newcastle and Liverpool expect from Michael Olise?

There’s no doubt that Michael Olise would be a fantastic option for both Newcastle and Liverpool.

The 22-year-old can score goals, provide assists, is a great dribbler and has a lot of Premier League experience too.

Olise missed large chunks of the season through injury, but still managed to get 10 goals and six assists from 19 league outings.

Pep Guardiola described the Frenchman as “incredible” last year, and when a manager of Guardiola’s calibre says such a thing, it’s a real badge of honour.

Olise won’t come cheap – Palace reportedly want £60million for his services – but he’s young, extremely talented and Premier League-proven, so it’s understandable.
