‘Genius’: Newcastle United player says it’s so hard to play against £54m Man City star

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has shared how difficult it is to play against one particular Manchester City player.

On Friday, the European Championship will officially kick off as the hosts Germany take on Scotland for their first group game.

This tournament will see numerous players from a range of Premier League clubs feature for their countries in an effort to win the competition.

In fact, 14 members of the City squad have been called up to feature for their countries over the next few weeks.

Ahead of the tournament, Dubravka, who will be representing Slovakia, has identified one fellow top-flight player he’ll be coming up against imminently and shared some heavy praise for him.

Martin Dubravka says Kevin De Bruyne is so dangerous

On the subject of Slovakia’s first group game against Belgium, Dubravka had this to say in a recent interview with DH Les Sports about it and the one player he thinks will be particularly dangerous in it.

He said: “I know how much individual quality there is in Belgium. The presence of [Kevin] De Bruyne changes a lot of things.

“He is not only one of the best players in the world, he is a genius of the game. We know that it will be hard to contain him but we are happy to be there.”

In 382 appearances for City, the midfielder has scored 102 goals and provided 170 assists along the way, which shows how effective he is when it comes to delivering goal contributions.

On the international stage, De Bruyne, who City paid £54m to sign back in 2015, has found the back of the net 27 times in 101 games.

De Bruyne could be a star player in the Euros

Despite featuring in just 18 Premier League games this season, the 32-year-old still ended the campaign with the highest rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes (7.36) and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes (1.18) in the division.

This further highlights why Dubravka has said De Bruyne is someone that his Slovakian teammates will have to make sure has a quiet game if they want to avoid losing their opening game of the Euros.

Moving forward, it wouldn’t surprise any City fan if the midfielder, who Danny Murphy recently described as the Roger Federer of football, went on to be one of the star players of the tournament.
