Tottenham now want to sign £50m player who Jamie Carragher warned Arsenal against buying - journalist

Tottenham want to sign a £50m Premier League star who Jamie Carragher warned Arsenal against buying, according to a recent report.

Ange Postecoglou is set to have a mini rebuild this summer as he looks to assemble a squad capable of finishing inside the top four.

They weren’t far off last term, placing just two points behind Aston Villa in fourth, so that has to be the aim for him and his players.

With that said, it seems he’s identified a Premier League player as one of his first targets.

Tottenham Hotspur interested in Amadou Onana

According to Ignazio Genuardi, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Everton’s highly-rated Amadou Onana.

The £50m-rated midfielder is also attracting strong interest from rivals Arsenal, though, Jamie Carragher has warned the North London outfit against buying him.

“I must say this, Onana is a player who Everton may have to sell with the situation that they find themselves in financially,” Carragher said.

“He came in with a huge reputation. Frank Lampard brought him in, he looks the part, did really well I think for Belgium at Wembley and there was talk of him going to other big clubs. I don’t see it. I haven’t since he’s been there.

“I don’t know what he is. Is he a holding midfield player? Does he get forward? Does he get involved? The only thing I have seen him do is try to lift the crowd, that is all I ever see him do when he plays for Everton.”

Tottenham Hotspur should stay clear

Whilst Onana is undoubtedly a very talented midfielder, for £50m, Spurs may be able to bring in a player that suits their system better.

Perhaps Martin Zubamendi should be a consideration, or at least a player of his profile, as he suits Postecoglou’s possession-based brand of football.

If he wanted to add more energy to the park, Eberechi Eze would be a better use of the funds.
