Fabrizio Romano shares what he knows after claims Arsenal have bid for Real Madrid star

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid this summer.

The Gunners are expected to be on the market for a new goalkeeper, with Aaron Ramsdale expected to leave the club before the window shuts in August.

If the Englishman is sold, Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar will need to replace him, and reports have claimed Arsenal have made a contract offer to sign Lunin.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared what he knows about the situation.

Fabrizio Romano reacts after Andriy Lunin to Arsenal rumours emerge

Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation was a hot topic of discussion in the 2023/24 season.

Ramsdale started the campaign as the number one, but he lost his place to David Raya after just four games in the Premier League.

The Spaniard then became Arteta’s main man in goal.

There was a lot of debate on whether Arteta was right to drop Ramsdale for the Brentford loanee, but Raya won the Golden Glove and helped Arsenal maintain the best defence in the Premier League.

Arteta’s decision proved to be the right one in the end, but if reports are to be believed, he is about to make another huge goalkeeping call.

There have been claims in Spain saying Arsenal have made an offer to Lunin to convince him to move to the Emirates this summer.

Romano, however, has claimed that he is not aware of anything between the Gunners and the Real Madrid man.

He also stressed that Arsenal’s only focus right now is to sign Raya on a permanent deal.

Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing: “Some surprise reports have linked the Real Madrid goalkeeper with Arsenal, but Arsenal are only focused on David Raya staying on a permanent deal.

“I’m not aware of this Lunin to Arsenal story, to be honest.

“Real Madrid still consider their new contract proposal to the player valid, and so it’s up to Lunin now to decide.”

There could be a twist in Ramsdale saga

Everybody thinks Ramsdale will leave Arsenal this summer and rightly so.

The England international is too good to be a number two, and with Raya set to be signed permanently, there’s almost zero chance that Ramsdale will get the number one spot back.

However, Arsenal have slapped a £50 million asking price for Ramsdale, which is fair when you see him as an established Premier League goalkeeper and an England international who still has a decade left in the game.

However, Newcastle United believe that’s too expensive for Ramsdale and have turned their attention to a cheaper alternative in James Trafford.

Ramsdale is open to a move abroad, but no foreign club – unless it’s one from Saudi Arabia – is going to meet Arsenal’s demands either.

As things stand, if Arsenal don’t budge on their asking price, no club will sign Ramsdale. So, in what would be a big twist, we think the Englishman could end up staying at Arsenal this summer.
