'Open to possibilities': £52m Man City target Gvardiol has been in contact with now comments on his future

A player thought to be on the Manchester City transfer radar has opened the door to an exit from his club this summer.

Manchester City are looking to strengthen after winning a fourth Premier League title in a row in 2023/24.

As things currently stand, it is Pep Guardiola‘s final season in charge at the Etihad Stadium, with his contract expiring next summer.

So it’s a big summer, with the manager hoping to make a big push for more trophies in 2024/25 in what could be his last term.

Speculation has been rife about a few players so far this summer. Bruno Guimaraes appears to be a player the club are interested in signing.

And someone else there have been tentative links to in recent times is Dani Olmo – and City may now have been given some hope in potentially signing him.

It was reported last October that Dani Olmo was someone City were quite interested in. Mundo Deportivo reported at the time that Olmo was ready to move to a bigger club.

And just recently, there has been more speculation about City being keen on Olmo, who is said to have a £52 million release clause.

Of course, City only did business with Leipzig a year ago, when they signed Josko Gvardiol in a £77 million deal. It has actually been claimed in recent times that Gvardiol has even spoken to Olmo talking up a move City to his former teammate.

Olmo is currently gearing up for Euro 2024 with Spain, and he spoke at a press conference ahead of their first group-stage match against Croatia – and he touched on his future.

He said (via Mundo Deportivo): “I’m open to possibilities that may arise, but I’m going to give you a cliché: I’m focused on the first game of the European Championship.”

Olmo is thought to be appreciated by Barcelona, amongst others.

City should keep close eye on Olmo at Euro 2024

Given the uncertainty around the future of Bernardo Silva, City ought to be keeping a close eye on Olmo.

The Portuguese would be a remarkably difficult player to replace, as he is one of the club’s best-ever signings. But Olmo is at least very versatile just like him, and offers both creativity and hard work out of possession.

Clearly, the player is very open to leave Leipzig this summer, after first signing for them in January 2020.

He’s spent a good amount of time there and is 27 now. Seemingly, he feels ready to make a move as he comes into his peak years.

It remains to be seen if City will decide to act on their interest. It could well all depend on what happens with Bernardo, who is said to want his future resolved by the end of the Euros.
