'Expected to join': Sky Sports journalist says 'incredible' player has just completed Newcastle medical

Newcastle United have been active in the market ahead of the summer transfer window opening in a few days’ time.

The Magpies squad was pushed to its limits last season and they’ll need to increase their strength in depth if they want to kick on.

However, Newcastle must also abide by profit and sustainability rules, which means they must be careful in the market or risk points deductions.

This means the Magpies are expected to look at free transfers to bolster their ranks without putting the club at risk of breaching financial rules.

Over the past few days, speculation linking Newcastle with highly sought-after Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly has been intensifying.

And now, Sky Sports News journalist Dharmesh Sheth has provided an exciting update regarding the 25-year-old, who is set to become a free agent soon.

“Defender Lloyd Kelly has completed his medical ahead of his move to Newcastle on a free transfer from Bournemouth,’ he said, as per the Sky Sports website.

‘The 25-year-old is expected to join Eddie Howe‘s side on a five-year deal with the option for a further year.’

Newcastle on verge of signing Lloyd Kelly

It looks as though an official announcement shouldn’t be long if Kelly has reportedly completed his medical with Newcastle.

And what a signing he is for the Magpies. He’s a solid player who is proven in the Premier League and, at just 25 years of age, he’s yet to reach his prime.

The ‘incredible‘ talent is capable of playing at both left-back and centre-back at a high level, so he ticks two boxes for Newcastle position-wise.

In addition, Magpies boss Howe knows Kelly well from his time at Bournemouth, so he knows the player’s qualities better than most.

All in all, this will be a great signing for the Magpies as they look to kick on after a somewhat underwhelming campaign last time out.
