'If it was me': Harry Redknapp tells Chelsea they've got to avoid selling 'influential' player this summer

Harry Redknapp has urged Chelsea to make sure they don’t sell one key player during the summer transfer window.

The window officially opened for Premier League clubs on Friday (today), so let’s see if it’s another busy time at Stamford Bridge.

Despite an up and down season last year at Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino, several players still proved their quality and importance to the squad.

Let’s see how the group takes shape under new head coach Enzo Maresca, though.

Harry Redknapp urges Chelsea to keep first-team star

Harry Redknapp claims there’s no way he would allow Conor Gallagher to leave Stamford Bridge if he was at Chelsea.

Gallagher, 24, is linked in the transfer rumour mill with a potential summer exit, largely down to the fact he’s entering the final year of his contract and the academy graduate’s sale would be pure profit for the club.

However, Redknapp insists the Blues must look to keep the England midfielder.

“If Chelsea are looking to go anywhere next season, then they really need to look to keep the likes of Conor Gallagher and their homegrown players if they can,” Redknapp told Metro.co.uk.

“If it was me, I’d keep him and sell some of the players they’ve bought who have been so average.”

What’s the latest with Conor Gallagher’s future?

The Guardian claimed on Wednesday that Chelsea could now perform a U-turn on Gallagher by trying to agree a new contract with him after previously looking to sell the central midfielder for around £50m.

Apparently, Aston Villa and Tottenham are both interested in signing him. He could be about to shift the position on his future, though.

The Chelsea Chronicle hopes that common sense prevails and Gallagher gets a much deserved new deal.

Speaking via talkSPORT (22 April), Joe Cole described Gallagher as “influential” for the Chelsea squad.

It’s clear towards that the Englishman must be kept!
