Report: Derby County now handed major Ebou Adams insight amid ongoing Cardiff City uncertainty

Derby County could soon have a decision from Cardiff City on former loanee Ebou Adams, with the Rams keen to bring him back to Pride Park on a permanent deal

Ebou Adams, 28, played a pivotal role in the back-end of the 2023/24 season for Derby County in their bid for promotion back to the Championship, helping them to automatic promotion.

The Rams managed to finish the season on an impressive 92 points with the league’s strongest defence, earning Warne promotion at the second time of asking.

The Gambian international proved in his short stint in Derbyshire that he could be crucial for Paul Warne’s side as they prepare for the second-tier.

With the significant midfield departures of Conor Hourihane and Korey Smith, there’s no doubt that Warne will want to recruit players in the middle of the park early in the transfer window.

Ebou Adams to Derby County latest amid Cardiff City uncertainty

Clarity on the transfer situation surrounding Adams is expected to become clear next week.

Cardiff boss Erol Bulut is set to start preparations for the Bluebirds’ season after coming back from holiday, where he will decide his stance on the midfielder.

With as many as eight central-midfielders on the books at Cardiff, it is expected that departures will come thick and fast in South Wales.

BBC Sport reports that Bulut is set to have talks with Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman and chief executive Ken Choo, with the Turkish boss willing to stamp his own identity on the side after recently signing a new deal.

Bulut was clear on Adams’ future back in May, saying: “He is still under contract of Cardiff City – he is a Cardiff City player.

“So let’s see how he thinks, how the manager is thinking, how the clubs are thinking and we will see.”

What Derby County need to do to sign Ebou Adams from Cardiff City

Patience will be key for Warne in approaching any potential transfer to bring Adams back to Pride Park for the 24/25 campaign.

With there being plenty of time for the Rams to recruit ahead of the Championship season, they should remain open-minded at the possibility of bringing in alternative ranks to fill that midfield position, although due to the excess numbers in the ranks at Cardiff, there certainly is a likelihood that they will look to shift the Gambian international.

With Adams returning to his parent club not being the only midfield departure, Warne will need to recruit a few, in particular to replace the departed Smith, who was crucial in playing alongside Adams in the second half of the season.

It would be likely that Cardiff will look to cash in on the 28-year-old, with him just having one year left on his deal, meaning a potentially low fee needed for the Rams to capture their man.
