'Been trying': Alan Nixon now issues new transfer update on Derby County's pursuit of Ebou Adams

Derby County supporters are longing to hear some news on Ebou Adams, and journalist Alan Nixon has dropped a new transfer update.

Derby fans developed a love affair with Ebou Adams as the Gambian enjoyed an incredible loan spell at the club.

Arriving in January on loan from Cardiff City, Adams played 17 times for the Rams and was a machine in the middle of the park, adding energy, tenacity and defensive steeliness.

The 28-year-old ultimately helped Paul Warne’s men win promotion, and the Derby boss made it clear he wanted to sign him permanently.

Cardiff reportedly want £500,000 for the midfielder and whilst Erol Bulut signing a new contract should have improved their chances of securing a deal, no bid has officially been launched, with journalist Alan Nixon supplying an update on their pursuit.

Alan Nixon drops update on Ebou Adams to Derby County

Warne has recently confirmed that he’s had calls with three different players, supposedly persuading them to join Derby this summer.

The former Rotherham United manager is assessing his options before the transfer window officially opens on June 14th, with the Pride Park faithful hoping a deal for Adams is one of the first to get done.

After releasing Conor Hourihane and Korey Smith while watching Max Bird return to Bristol City, the Rams need at least three new midfielders this summer, with Warne even claiming they need 10 players in total through the door.

Reliable journalist Nixon claims Derby have been trying to get a deal for Adams over the past few weeks, and doesn’t know whether that is a good or bad sign.

What could be holding up Ebou Adams move to Derby County?

Cardiff boss Bulut has previously said that he’d look at Adams this summer but wouldn’t stand in his way if Derby submitted the right offer for him.

The Turkish tactician may want to see him in action during pre-season to decide whether he fits into his plans whilst it’s unlikely the Rams have tested the waters with an official bid.

Although Nixon claims they’ve been trying to do a deal for weeks, Derby hold the strongest hand in negotiations.

Adams sees his contract expire in 2025, meaning Cardiff can either sell him for a cut-price this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer next year.

It’s likely Bulut will encourage the club to cash in, as while he excelled on loan at Pride Park, the 28-year-old only made three starts under him.

The midfielder also said he enjoyed coming into training every day during his loan spell at Derby, so it’s clear he grew a strong affiliation with the club, and that will surely play a part in his final decision this summer.
