The 30-year-old, of Park Avenue, Thatcham, is accused of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, thereby causing Kasey Randall harassment, alarm or distress.

He is also accused of assaulting Ms Randall by beating her on the same occasion.

Both offences were said to have occurred in Newbury on October 5 last year.

Mr Lee, who was legally represented by Rob Slinn at the hearing, spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to both charges.

District judge Samuel Goozee told him the case could proceed no further that day and that it would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

Mr Lee was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
