Rob Huff chalked up a hat-trick of points finishes during a largely quiet round of Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship action at Thruxton last weekend.
The Cambridge driver found himself in the thick of the midfield battle around the fastest circuit in the country, managing to stay out of trouble to consolidate his position inside the top 10 of the overall standings.
Arriving at the high-speed Hampshire venue off the back of claiming a historic first series win in 20 years at Snetterton, the 44-year-old spent Saturday’s two practice sessions dialling in the set up of his Toyota Corolla GR Sport machine before embarking on qualifying later that afternoon.
Unfortunately for Huff, the battle for pole position would prove to be one of frustration as he narrowly missed out on progressing into Q2 and instead had to settle for 13th on the grid for race one.
Race day would see the former FIA World Touring Car Championship title winner make steady progress as he moved forward in all three races, starting in the opening contest where he crossed the line in 12th.
And the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK racer then kicked on to claim 10th place in race two before then concluding his weekend with a hard-fought drive to ninth in the finale.
“It’s been one of those weekend’s where we’ve not got too much to write home about as we went a little under the radar,” said Huff.
“As a team, none of the Toyota drivers really had the car underneath them to challenge those up at the front so three points finishes is the best I could manage.
“In free practice we all had quite a bit of instability at the rear of the car so every time we went out we were trying things to try and find a good balance, which I think we achieved across Sunday’s three races.
“It’s a little frustrating as you always want to come away with more but I’m pleased with the progress that we as a team made with getting on top of the car.
“The BTCC is all about keeping the points ticking along and we’re very much doing that at the moment. Consistency is key and the focus is to continue that.”
