Every Manchester United player who has won the European Championships

Euro 2024 will provide an opportunity for the best players across Europe to get their hands on one of the most difficult to win trophies in football.

Kylian Mbappe recently lamented the fact that France have not won the trophy since the year 2000, claiming it was more difficult to win than the World Cupcomments which upset Lisandro Martinez.

This is reflected by the very small number of Manchester United players who have won the European Championships while at the club – and this year there are only eight Red Devils players competing at the tournament in Germany.

How many Manchester United players won the European Championships

Since the European Championships tournament began 64 years ago back in the year 1960, there have only been two players who won the trophy while under contract to Manchester United.

The first was club legend Peter Schmeichel, who won Euro 1992 with Denmark in one of the great international tournament shocks.

Denmark were late entrants in place of Yugoslavia, who were forced to withdraw amid the break-up of the country.

The second and last Manchester United player to win the tournament was Fabien Barthez in 2000, who signed for the Red Devils at the end of May as a replacement for Mark Bosnich, days before Euro 2000 kicked off.

Barthez followed up his World Cup 1998 success, with France beating Italy in the final.

No outfield player has won the Euros while representing the Red Devils.

There have been a host of players in recent years who have worn the Manchester United shirt, and have a European Championships medal on their CV. They just weren’t playing for the Red Devils at the time.

Manchester United players who scored in the European Championships final

There is only one Manchester United player who has scored in the final of a European Championship game, and this was Luke Shaw.

Shaw struck to give England the lead against Italy in Euro 2020, held in 2021. Italy won the game on penalties.

This game saw Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford come close to adding their names to the list featuring Schmeichel and Barthez.
