‘The only guy’: Insider who’s seen Arsenal’s list of targets says £60m man is the only striker on there

Arsenal have plenty of work to do in this summer transfer window.

The Gunners need new signings through the door as they look to overthrow Manchester City and end their stranglehold on the Premier League.

Many have claimed that Arsenal need to sign a striker this summer, but speaking on Inside Arsenal, Gunners source, Team News and Ticks, has shared an interesting insight into Arsenal’s transfer strategy.

Indeed, the insider says that he has seen Arsenal’s list of targets earlier this year, and he says that there was only one number nine on that list – Alexander Isak.

Alexander Isak the only striker on Arsenal’s list

The insider shared what he saw on Arsenal’s list of targets.

“Just to answer the question differently. I don’t think we will sign a number nine and I’ve said that when I was given our list of targets at the start of the year,” He said.

“The only guy there who could really play at nine was Isak and that was seen as very unlikely, and even then it was noted that he could play wide and he could play nine.”

The striker market is bare

The £60m man was the only striker on Arsenal’s list heading into this summer, and it’s not hard to understand why.

The reality is that the striker market is barren at the moment. Isak is one of the only players in world football who could potentially be available who would definitely improve Arsenal as a side.

Just look at the strikers heading to Euro 2024 to start for the top teams and you can see why Arsenal don’t have a long list of striker targets.

France will be starting with Olivier Giroud up front – a player Arsenal have already had and got rid of, Spain will be starting with Alvaro Morata – a player who flopped in the Premier League, England will be starting with Harry Kane, a player who won’t be joining Arsenal in a million years, and the Netherlands and Italy will be starting with their own respective Premier League flops in Memphis Depay and Gianluca Scamacca.

The pool of strikers to pick from right now is incredibly shallow, and we don’t blame Arsenal one bit if they want to wait another year to see if any better options emerge.
