Exclusive: Liverpool in contact with £70m Euro 2024 star who Virgil van Dijk once recommended

Liverpool are looking for new players and could now get a chance to sign a defender who Virgil van Dijk once recommended to the club.

With the Arne Slot era now underway and the transfer window now open, Liverpool fans will be looking at FSG to back the new manager.

A number of players are already being linked with a move to Anfield.

And according to TBR Football sources, a big name Euro 2024 star could be on his way to Liverpool.

Liverpool among clubs in contact with Matthijs de Ligt

TBR Football understands a host of Premier League clubs have been spoken to about Dutch star Matthijs De Ligt

De Ligt became increasingly frustrated with his role at Bayern last season under Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel has since departed but Bayern are already making plans in central defence and TBR understand that they are ready to move on from De Ligt, as well as his South Korean team-mate Kim Min-jae.

Part of Bayern’s plans have already seen them sign Stuttgart’s Hiroki Ito whilst they are also in talks to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen.

With that TBR is told that intermediaries have already contacted a number of Premier League clubs about De Ligt and his availability.

TBR understands that Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle have all been approached about the Dutchman – who is currently with the Dutch squad ahead of Euro 2024.

TBR has been told by sources with knowledge of the situation that De Ligt would like the chance to play in England.

De Ligt joined Bayern Munich in 2022 from Juventus in a deal worth around £70million.

De Ligt and Van Dijk would be magnificent at Liverpool

Matthijs de Ligt has been one of the top defenders in Europe for some time now and the idea he joins his international teammate Van Dijk at Anfield feels massive.

As reported back in 2018, Van Dijk has already said he’d recommend De Ligt to Liverpool if needed.

Now, with the Bayern Munich star potentially on the market, it’s a huge chance for English clubs to finally bring the Dutchman to the Premier League.

De Ligt coming to Liverpool and playing alongside Van Dijk would be enormous for the Reds.

Still only 24, De Ligt has time to not only play alongside Van Dijk for some time but then take over from him as the main man at Anfield.
