'Wouldn't rule it out': Chelsea could reignite interest in £100m striker after getting Jhon Duran - journalist

The Chelsea Chronicle has been told that Chelsea may not be finished with their striker transfer business with the potential addition of Jhon Duran.

It has been reported that the Blues are extremely keen on the addition of the Aston Villa striker, and the player is apparently keen on the idea of a move to Stamford Bridge.

New manager Enzo Maresca is reportedly a big fan of the 20-year-old, which will surely play into his favour if a deal is agreed.

With reports that Chelsea are looking to secure a new striker as soon as possible, there would no doubt be some fans who are underwhelmed by the links to Duran, a player who spent the majority of last season on the bench.

Chelsea could return for Victor Osimhen

However, insider Graeme Bailey told The Chelsea Chronicle that this may well not be end of striker news this summer, and he would certainly not be surprised if the Blues returned to Victor Osimhen at some stage of this window.

He said: “It wouldn’t surprise me if Duran came in with another one [striker]. Would Duran be the main target? I’d be surprised and I think most Chelsea fans would be surprised as well. Chelsea won’t over pay for him, and I think the fact they paid £30m for Nicolas Jackson probably tells us where they feel they should be with Duran.”

“I don’t think they’ll just necessarily go for two strikers, but because Duran is someone they’ve wanted for a long time, and they like a lot, I think if they got him it wouldn’t rule out another one. Duran plus one other is the way.

“Could we see the Osimhen interest resurrected? I wouldn’t rule it out completely, but unlikely at this stage. They [Napoli] are very hard to negotiate with. The chairman normally gets his way. Sesko was a bit of a surprise to be staying. Dominic Solanke is a player they know about, they’ve done their homework on. Luis Openda, Sesko’s teammate at Leipzig.

“Dovbyk at Girona, they’ve looked at him, he’s on the radar. Same as Ivan Toney, but Brentford are not dropping below £60m. Obviously Julian Alvarez at City who we know they like as well. There’ll be others as well. They are assessing their options. And Victor Gyokeres as well.”

Osimhen used to be Chelsea’s number one target

It had been claimed that the Blues had seemed to move away from Osimhen despite making him their number one target for the majority of last season.

Some Chelsea supporters will likely be questioning if a move for a new striker is something they really need, or if they should persue developing Nicolas Jackson after an impressive first season in the Premier League.

Any new addition would likely take key minutes away from the Senegal international, who had made himself a crucial member of the first team squad in the latter portion of last season.
