Unai Emery could emulate Leon Bailey success in £29m move for ‘unstoppable’ Aston Villa target

Unai Emery could replicate the success of Leon Bailey at Aston Villa by signing an ‘unstoppable’ target.

Aston Villa have made a busy start to the transfer window as Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran look likely to depart for Juventus and Chelsea respectively while Samuel Iling-Junior and Weston McKennie are set to arrive in the swap deal for Luiz.

The sale of that duo, with Duran commanding a fee of £40 million, will help alleviate the overhanging stress of PSR, though there is one position in particular that needs strengthening.

Unai Emery is in the market for a second striker to float in behind Ollie Watkins and a winger to operate on the left flank. Luckily, a move for one of their previous targets would resolve both of those problems.

Juventus could sell Aston Villa target Federico Chiesa

Villa should continue their raid on Juventus after signing Iling-Junior and McKennie by launching a move for Federico Chiesa.

Last year, Chiesa was linked with a move to Villa Park as Sky Italia claimed they were ready to offer Juventus €60m for the forward.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now said that the 26-year-old’s future in Turin is uncertain as he nears the final year of his contract.

This news has seen his value drop significantly, with TuttoJuve reporting that Juventus could accept a fee of €35 million (£29 million) for his signature.

If that is the case, Villa should be all over a deal for the attacker, who looks set to star at Euro 2024 as Emery could emulate the success of Leon Bailey.

Unai Emery could emulate Leon Bailey success with Federico Chiesa

When Emery arrived at Villa Park in November 2022, Bailey was a shadow of his former self at Bayer Leverkusen.

Bereft of any confidence under Steven Gerrard and showing no signs of repaying his £30 million price tag however, fast forward to the present day and Bailey is one of the Premier League’s best wingers, and the Spaniard is a huge reason why.

Operating predominantly from the right flank, the 26-year-old produced an eye-watering 12 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, numbers that weren’t associated with the fleet-footed winger before Emery’s arrival.

Chiesa, much like the former version of the Jamaican, is currently bereft of confidence at Juventus, with Thiago Motta open to letting him leave this summer.

Despite scoring in his final two games of the Serie A campaign, the Italian found the net just once in his previous 14 appearances, evincing his struggles.

Once lauded as “unstoppable” by former teammate Georgio Chiellini, a move away from his current club could give him a new lease of life and under an excellent man manager like Emery, Chiesa is destined to become a success.

With Duran potentially on his way out of Villa Park, he could battle with Frenchman Moussa Diaby for that second striker role, while forming a potent partnership with striker Watkins.

Chiesa is also adept at playing on either flank, giving Emery multiple options to shoehorn him into the starting XI. For a similar fee to what Villa paid for Bailey in 2021, the Midlands outfit would be getting a quality and versatile attacker who could emulate the Jamaican’s recent success.
