‘I’d be surprised’: Journalist says he’d be shocked if £50m Liverpool target signed for Man Utd

Liverpool and Manchester United are both looking to sign a new centre-back this summer.

The Reds need to get a new defender in to replace Joel Matip and add more depth to their ranks, while United need to replace the outgoing Raphael Varane.

As you can imagine, with both clubs needing similar sorts of players, they’re both being linked with the same targets.

Goncalo Inacio is one player who has been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United as of late, but speaking on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, Dean Jones has poured cold water on the idea of Inacio joining United.

Goncalo Inacio to Manchester United unlikely

Jones stated that he would be surprised if Inacio ended up at Old Trafford.

“Inacio has been linked, but I’d be surprised if that’s the one that ends up happening. Todibo wouldn’t surprise me. Leny Yoro is still someone they’re looking at, they like Max Kilman, Marc Guehi, Antonio Silva and Gleison Bremer,” Jones said.

Inacio to Liverpool more likely

Inacio to United doesn’t sound as though it’s on the cards, but perhaps a move to Liverpool could be.

Indeed, this would be a very Liverpool signing.

With Julian Ward back at the club, the Reds will be exploring the Portuguese market more and more once again, while, as last summer showed, the Reds love to sign a player with a release clause.

Inacio has a £50m release clause in his contract, and that sort of deal would be right up Liverpool’s street.

Of course, getting any player out of the Portuguese League is easier said than done, as deals for the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Darwin Nunez have shown in recent years, these top Portuguese sides are no longer pushovers, but with a release clause in place, Liverpool may be able to get this deal done if they choose to trigger such a clause.
