It was a stacked card at Newbury on Thursday as punters braved the drizzle to watch eight competitive races.
The Berkshire stand was alive with anticipation for the second race, hoping to see a good showing from Godolphin’s Anno Domini, ridden by William Buick.
The half a million pound purchase didn’t disappoint, pulling away from the pack when put under pressure with a few furlongs to go, proving that there is plenty left to unlock on a bigger stage.
The fifth race saw a local winner, as Andrew Balding’s Clove Hitch won the Darley EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes after being well backed as favourite.
Jockey Oisin Murphy told the media how “she’s a lovely filly, very well bred. It doesn’t get much better!”.
“She was fit, she was straightforward, she relaxed at Windsor last time and same again here.
“It was a push-button gallop up the straight.”
There were also two third places for local trainer Roger Teal, who had Gert Lush in the first race and Whenthedealinsdone in the 5:05, the latter ridden by top Gosden jockey Kieran Shoemark as part of his Ascot preparation.
