Report: Saudi club are willing to go back in for Newcastle player after agreeing £25m deal in January

Newcastle United have a suitor for one of the players they are trying to sell this summer.

The Magpies are under pressure to get rid of someone this month, with Newcastle United one of six Premier League clubs that need to sell before June 30th due to PSR.

There are plenty of players who Newcastle would be willing to move on, but wanting to sell and actually being able to is a different matter.

One of the leading candidates to depart St James’ Park is Miguel Almiron, with Geordie Boot Boys told last month that a move away for the Paraguayan is likely.

Newcastle are open to offers for the 30-year-old, while they are also looking for a replacement. A new right winger is a priority this summer, with the Magpies recently showing an interest in Crystal Palace superstar Michael Olise.

He would be a massive improvement on Almiron, who does have one club that is interested in signing him.

Al-Shabab waiting for Miguel Almiron to give them the green light

That is according to Ben Jacobs of Give Me Sport, who has provided an update on the summer transfer plans for Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab.

The report states that the Riyadh-based club had agreed to pay £25million for Almiron during the January transfer window, only for the Toon speedster to opt against a move to Saudi Arabia.

Despite this, Give Me Sport add that Al-Shabab are still willing to do a deal for the winger this summer if he indicates that he is open to the move.

Saudi Arabia move might not appeal to Almiron

It seems like the ball is in Miggy’s court.

Newcastle are happy for him to leave, but obviously the player has to agree to a move as well. He has two years remaining on his contract, having signed an extension in February 2023.

Perhaps if the club continues to press ahead with their search for a new winger then Almiron will accept that his days in black and white are numbered. If a marquee player like Olise arrives, he is not going to be a regular starter, and that might convince him that the time is right to find a new club.

But even if Almiron does decide that he is happy to leave, that does not necessarily mean he is happy to leave and join a club in Saudi Arabia. Other than the obvious financial benefits, it is easy to understand why some players are not keen to go and play there.

However, if Almiron does suddenly decide that a move to Saudi Arabia is for him then Al-Shabab are seemingly ready to do a deal.
