'They don't like him': Arsenal have met with £45m striker but have been put off signing him - insider

Arsenal have been linked with all sorts of strikers in recent months.

The Gunners have been at the centre of so many transfer rumours regarding centre-forwards, and perhaps the most prominent player who has regularly been linked to Arsenal is Ivan Toney.

The Brentford star was spoken about so much in the January transfer window, but since then, the chat about Toney and Arsenal has gone rather quiet.

Speaking on Inside Arsenal, Gunners source, Team News and Ticks has been discussing why the links to Toney have gone quiet, and he provided an interesting explanation.

Why Arsenal aren’t being linked with Ivan Toney as much

The insider shared why Arsenal aren’t being linked with Ivan Toney as much when speaking with Charles Watts,

“Why have the links to Ivan Toney gone quiet? He seems like a forgotten man now?” Watts asked.

“They don’t like him. They met him and didn’t like him,” He said.

“I said in February a week prior that I thought Toney would be an Arsenal player because they met him, but I found out what happened from that meeting and that they didn’t like him.

“Essentially, I think they’d been speaking behind the scenes to him and his agent, he wanted to move to a big club and preferably Arsenal, he thought he would get tons of goals and suit the system, but they met him and they purely didn’t like him.”

Ivan Toney isn’t right for Arsenal

It’s almost not a surprise to hear this.

Toney is player who always seems to carry a bit of ego with him, and he’s never scared to voice his opinions, no matter how brutal or honest they may be.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta wants players who will only do what he says, he wants a squad that will follow instructions to a tee and not create a media storm, and Toney doesn’t fit that model.

The £45m-rated attacker will get a big move this summer, but it sounds as though he won’t be signing for Arsenal.
