'He’s really cheap': Bayern Munich really want to sign record-breaking Arsenal youngster now - journalist

Bayern Munich are really attracted by the prospect of signing one of Arsenal’s most talented young players this summer.

The Gunners’ first team has been doing an amazing job only over the last two seasons, but their academy has been incredible for many years.

Bukayo Saka came through Arsenal’s youth setup and is one of the best players in the world now. There are a few others who could follow in his footsteps.

The likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have been making huge strides behind the scenes at Arsenal, and they could make a big impact in the senior side in the coming years.

There is another youngster at Arsenal who everybody is talking about. Now, Bayern Munich want to sign him and they can get him for a bargain fee.

Bayern Munich want to sign Arsenal’s Chido Obi-Martin for a very small fee

Chido Obi-Martin was arguably the best young player in Arsenal’s academy in the 2023/24 season.

The Dane is still only 16 years old, but he is almost unplayable in his own age group. That’s why he became a regular for the Arsenal U18s side and even played a couple of games for the club’s U21s team.

Obi-Martin impressed everyone with his performances under Jack Wilshere. He scored 32 goals in just 18 appearances in the U18 Premier League last season.

By doing so, he broke Folarin Balogun’s record for most goals scored for the club’s U18s side in a single season, which is a magnificent achievement considering he’s still only 16.

Those performances have caught Bayern Munich’s eye, and German journalist Christian Falk has claimed that it is true that the Bavarians are looking to sign him.

Clubs in Germany can sign hand professional contracts to youngsters when they are 16, but Arsenal have to wait till he turns 17 in November before they can do the same.

That’s the big advantage Bayern have and they are now keen to sign for a ‘really cheap’ fee.

Falk wrote in his Fact Files on the Daily Briefing: “It’s true that Bayern Munich are interested in Arsenal youngster Chidozie Obi-Martin. He’s very attractive for Bayern. He’s scoring plenty of goals.

“Bayern have the advantage as the situation is a bit different in Germany compared to England – he can already sign a professional contract at 16 years of age. Bayern would only have to pay €400,000. So he’s really cheap!

“But Bayern aren’t the only club interested; there’s also Dortmund who are going for him. So it’s getting really interesting, but I heard that Bayern have a good chance of signing Obi-Martin.”

How Arsenal feel about keeping Obi-Martin

Arsenal have one of the best players in the world in Saka, and he cost them absolutely nothing having come through the academy.

That shows just how important it is for the Gunners to keep hold of their best young players.

Obi-Martin could easily have the same kind of impact as Saka, but Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund’s interest in him complicates things.

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed recently that Arsenal have not given up on keeping Obi-Martin beyond the end of the summer window.

Football Transfers further claim that Arsenal are confident of keeping hold of him and Wilshere has even held talks to convince him to stay at the club.

If the Gunners can keep hold of Obi Martin despite interest from Bayern and Dortmund, it would be a massive statement.
