Report: Nottingham Forest want two-time title-winner valued at £3m, Aston Villa and Lopetegui also keen

The transfer window is now officially open and for Nottingham Forest it’s likely to be another busy period.

Forest are sailing close to the wind when it comes to their profitability and sustainability requirements.

With that in mind, at least one top player looks like leaving, with Forest needing to raise £20 million by the end of the month.

Now, another link has emerged with regard to Forest being interested in a player and this time it’s a right-sided defender who is on the radar.

Nottingham Forest want Saud Abdulhamid

The Al-Hilal performer is a wanted man this month and it appears a host of clubs are queuing up to sign him.

According to Will Unwin of The Guardian, Forest are in the race to sign the right-back before the season starts.

Forest aren’t on their own in this race, with West Ham, Aston Villa and Nice also interested in his services.

Furthermore, there is also an offer already on the table from Toulouse with the player valued at around £3 million.

Abdulhamid signed for Al-Hilal in 2022 from Al-Ittihad and during 2023/24 he scored four goals and claimed nine assists.

He spent the season playing alongside Renan Lodi as the pair helped Al-Hilal claim glory in the Saudi Pro League.

It’s the second time that the player has claimed success in the league, getting himself a winners medal during the 2021/22 campaign too.

Abdulhamid is also a regular with the Saudi Arabia national team and has collected 28 caps for his country.

Forest could use another right-back option

As things stand, Forest have limited resources when it comes to the right-hand side of their defensive unit.

Gonzalo Montiel finished the season at right-back with Neco Williams missing the final three games of the season through injury.

The Argentinean has now returned to Sevilla after the end of his loan and that leaves Williams to fly solo.

Ola Aina has penned a new deal with Forest but his best football at Forest was played at left-back last season.

With that in mind, the link to Abdulhamid makes a lot of sense and it appears that Forest could do a lot worse.

The 24-year-old still has time on his side to improve and with nine assists last season, he’s a player who clearly likes to get himself forward.

Forest will have to cut their cloth accordingly this summer and the chance to sign a solid performer for just £3 million feels like it could be sound business.
