Report: Nottingham Forest could move to sign player with £10m release clause after Carlos Miguel deal

Nottingham Forest could move to sign a player with a £10m release clause – after a deal for Carlos Miguel is wrapped up.

The Corinthians No.22 looks set to become Nottingham Forest’s first signing of the summer after the Brazilian glovesman gave the green light on a £3m deal – receiving criticism from media outlet CNN in his homeland as a result.

Now, Nottingham Forest could move to sign another goalkeeper as well as Carlos Miguel…

Nottingham Forest considering Sam Johnstone

A story from the Telegraph now states that Nottingham Forest are considering a move to sign Crystal Palace No.1 Sam Johnstone.

It is said that the Garibaldi have placed both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos – who is very unhappy at the City Ground – up for sale as two new goalkeepers are targeted this summer to compete against Matz Sels.

The Telegraph even go as far as saying that two new shot-stoppers are “likely” to join.

Johnstone ended up losing his place at Crystal Palace to another England international in Dean Henderson last season following an injury, and could presumably seek to depart south London to become No.1 again elsewhere.

A report from The Sun in June 2023 claimed that the 31-year-old has a release clause worth just £10m written into his contract at Selhurst Park, which is certainly affordable for Nottingham Forest.

Johnstone kept six clean sheets in 20 Premier League appearances last season – conceding 27 goals.

Interest remains from January

Nottingham Forest are clearly admirers of Johnstone – as interest remains from January.

The Reds actually submitted a bid for the Preston-born glovesman in January, according to The Athletic, although Crystal Palace rejected the offer, presumably in case Henderson suffered another injury.

Now – however – with the England international appearing to be Oliver Glasner’s No.1 in SE25, Johnstone could look to force an exit.

In truth, the Manchester United academy graduate is far too talented to spend all season playing second fiddle to Henderson.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a £10m offer could ensure Nottingham Forest can discuss personal terms with Johnstone – should rumours of that release clause be accurate.
