Peter Crouch shows the ultimate disrespect to Man Utd legend when picking England XI, he can’t be serious

Manchester United have had some phenomenal players in the past to take to the international stage with England.

The likes of Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and so many more have all been regular offenders for the Three Lions when they were playing football.

However, despite the fantastic array of talent the England squad have possessed over the years with Red Devils stars – they never won a single thing on the international stage. A stark contrast to their careers at Old Trafford.

Still, some had glorious moments for their country that will be remembered for generations. None probably more so than David Beckham – who has been heavily disrespected by Peter Crouch on one of his podcasts.

Peter Crouch shows David Beckham disrespect in England XI

Ahead of the Euro 2024 campaign, where Gareth Southgate will have an extremely tough decision to make with his starting XI against Serbia, Premier League cult hero Crouch sat down and was tasked with picking an England starting XI consisting of either the 2004 Euros squad, or the current side.

Naturally, there were decisions to be made on current, and former Manchester United stars. The first was Gary Neville, who Crouch decided to pick over Kyle Walker. Interesting start.

Then, it was Harry Maguire, or Sol Campbell – to which Crouchy went with the latter. He also then picked fellow Arsenal invincible Ashley Cole over Luke Shaw. Fair play there, no arguments to be had.

Into midfield, Crouch was asked whether he’d take Chelsea starboy Cole Palmer, or legendary midfielder Paul Scholes. He opted for Scholesy.

Then, the decision was made on Beckham, arguably one of England’s greatest and most influential players ever. He was asked, Bukayo Saka or Beckham? Crouch replied with the current Arsenal man.

Baffling. We love Saka and think he’s a phenomenal talent, but after all Beckham has done for his country? This is an extremely bold call from Crouch, that we certainly can’t say we agree with.

Who was in Peter Crouch’s combined England side?

Here is how Crouch picked between the two sides. His answers are in bold. Most are spot on, but there are more than a few dubious calls.

  • David James or Jordan Pickford?
  • Gary Neville or Kyle Walker?
  • John Terry or John Stones?
  • Sol Campbell or Harry Maguire?
  • Ashley Cole or Luke Shaw?
  • Steven Gerrard or Declan Rice?
  • Frank Lampard or Phil Foden?
  • Paul Scholes or Cole Palmer?
  • David Beckham or Bukayo Saka?
  • Wayne Rooney or Harry Kane?
  • Michael Owen or Ollie Watkins?

We’ll give him some credit for sticking in Wazza, but Beck’s call is criminal.
