‘Perfect’: £38m player who Arsenal want to sign dazzled at Euro 2024 yesterday, picked up Man of the Match

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is likely to have a keen eye on Euro 2024 over the coming weeks.

The Gunners have a total of 11 players at the tournament in Germany, with the likes of Kieran Tierney, Kai Havertz and Jorginho already featuring.

Havertz netted in Germany’s empathic 5-1 over Tierney’s Scotland on Friday while Jorginho played the full 90 minutes at Italy beat Albania yesterday.

But Arsenal will also be tracking the performances of potential summer targets during Euro 2024 and one impressed on Saturday.

Arsenal target impressed during Euro 2024 opener

Alongside Jorginho, Federico Chiesa also played a key role in Italy’s 2-1 win over Albania last night.

The winger picked up UEFA’s Man of the Match award after a lively display off the right-hand side.

Chiesa also impressed the media in Italy, with Calciomercato stating that only a goal was missing from his performance.

They wrote: “Wants to be true to his word and return to a high level. From words to deeds, his match is the perfect demonstration of this.

“He sows panic on the right flank, every ball received by the Juventus outfielder is a shot, a possible chance for Italy. Only the goal is missing to frame his performance.”

Sky Sport Italy handed the winger a seven out of 10 rating and claimed he shines on the international stage.

“The blue suits him. Even starting from further away, he finds the light of the European Championship he won. He bites and bites, with a panache that is never seen in black and white. He is far from goal, but he creates continuous superiority on the right flank,” the outlet wrote.

Arsenal want to sign Chiesa

Recent reports in Italy have claimed that Arsenal are among a host of sides interested in signing Chiesa this summer.

The Juventus star is reportedly valued at a fee worth around £38 million and the Italian giants are ready to cash-in.

It’s no secret that Arteta was on the lookout for a striker but after missing out on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, a move for a winger could emerge as a priority.

Chiesa would offer cover on both flanks and at 26, the Italian has his best years ahead of him. But his injury record in recent years will be a cause for concern, particularly after an ACL injury back in January 2022.

With that being said, Arsenal will surely be monitoring the winger’s performances in Germany as they look to bolster Arteta’s attacking options.
