Report: £55m Barcelona star's transfer stance now known, after rumoured bid from Newcastle

A Barcelona star has reportedly addressed his stance on leaving the La Liga giants this summer after a rumoured bid from Newcastle United.

The St. James’ Park side are set for a huge window, with Newcastle already confirming the signing of defender Lloyd Kelly after his release from Premier League rivals AFC Bournemouth.

With James Trafford reportedly close to joining from Burnley, Newcastle are making all the right moves in trying to improve their squad as early as possible this summer ahead of the new Premier League season.

And one rumoured target has now clarified if he will be on the move from Barcelona this summer.

Ferran Torres rules out Barcelona exit after ‘bid’ from Newcastle

According to Sport, Ferran Torres has no intention of leaving Barcelona this summer, with the Spanish international believed to be subject to a ‘bid’ from Newcastle already this window.

Whilst this offer has already been disputed as not true, this stance from Torres could all-but end links between the former Manchester City star and Newcastle, where the 24-year-old could have thrived.

Signed for £55m back in 2021, Torres has failed to make much of an impact in Catalonia with Barcelona despite an impressive goalscoring record with City under Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, a return to the Premier League could have suited Torres, and with Newcastle in the market for a versatile attacker, the Spanish international could have ticked all the boxes for Eddie Howe this summer.

Torres could regret commitment to Barcelona this summer

Torres is clearly a talented player who could have a big future if he takes his career in the right direction, with committing to Barcelona a decision that could backfire this summer.

In Newcastle, Torres would have a club willing to give the winger a platform to thrive and succeed in the Premier League, a division the attacker has already shown he can prosper.

And choosing this point in the window to commit his future to Barcelona is an unusual decision for Torres, who after this summer’s Euros could realise he is better off moving on than staying with the La Liga giants.
