French manager now in danger of sack after relegation, after Leeds considered him before Daniel Farke

Last summer, Leeds United were linked with a whole host of managers stretching from Luton’s Rob Edwards to Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers and even a Ligue 1 boss.

It was a summer of chaos at Elland Road with all areas of the club changing hands. Not only were there mass changes at squad level following relegation and in the dugout, but also a takeover took place.

Eventually, things calmed down with The 49ers buying out Andrea Radrizzani and Daniel Farke chosen as the man to take Leeds forward. It culminated in a 90-point season, and promotion coming very close.

But there were many managers considered by The 49ers before Leeds handed the reigns to Farke, a man that has won The Championship twice and was always deemed the sensible and most-likely option.

One manager linked with a move to Elland Road was working in France’s top tier but fast forward 12 months, and he is in danger of the sack after failing to prevent relegation from Ligue 1 during 2023-24.

Linked with Leeds, Frenchman in danger of sack after relegation

Regis Le Bris was linked with Leeds at the start of the summer before The 49ers had even taken over properly. It came after the Lorient boss starred in his first full season, guiding Lorient to a lofty ninth.

That is despite lacking any real budget for new players, performing miracles on a shoe string. Leeds were briefly linked as Le Bris looked to force an exit, with OGC Nice also said to be interested last summer.

However, Le Bris remained at Lorient and ultimately it proved to be the wrong decision. That lack of cash saw Lorient struggle to get anywhere near their previous success and eventually, were relegated in 17th.

Le Bris now in danger of being sacked at Lorient this summer

A report from L’Equipe towards the end of May stated that Le Bris was due to meet with Lorient president Loic Ferry to discuss the season and likely, the manager’s future at the club following relegation.

Many will remember Lorient’s brilliant ninth place during 2022-23, but this season’s failures are stark and given the furore of trying to force an exit last summer, Le Bris has little cash in the bank with supporters.

It might be then, that a year on from links to Leeds and Nice that Le Bris is sacked as Lorient boss – the club he tried to leave last summer. Leeds might have dodged a bullet with the French gaffer.
