Jordan Henderson absolutely loves that 178-game former Liverpool man has joined a new club this summer

Jordan Henderson earned iconic status at Liverpool thanks to his leadership on and off the pitch for several years.

The midfielder made almost 500 appearances for the Reds, captaining them to the likes of the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

But his position in Anfield folklore took a huge blow when he decided to exit Anfield for the riches of the Saudi Pro League.

A move to Al-Ettifaq took place last summer, with Henderson linking up with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, the manager of the Saudi club.

But the spell certainly didn’t work out as expected, with the midfielder leaving for Dutch giants Ajax in January. The 33-year-old could now even be sold by his current club due to financial issues.

Jordan Henderson reacts after Adam Lallana seals Southampton move

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the ex-England man, but one of his former Liverpool teammates has now secured himself a new club.

Adam Lallana spent several years playing alongside Henderson at Anfield, who joined the Reds from Southampton in 2014, signed by Brendan Rodgers.

The midfielder then moved on to Brighton in 2020, but after four years has made an emotional return to his boyhood club Southampton.

The 36-year-old took to social media to celebrate the move, writing on Instagram: “Back to where it all started. It’s a privilege to once again represent a club that has given so much to me and my family.

“There’s already a buzz around the place for next season – and I will give everything I have to try and help make it a success for our supporters.”

Among those reacting to the post was his former Anfield teammate Henderson, who sent heart and clapping emojis to his fellow player.

How will Liverpool fans remember Adam Lallana?

It was clear that Jurgen Klopp had a special bond with the midfielder, but their partnership was unfortunately heavily impacted by injuries to Lallana.

A player with huge potential, he was sadly limited to just 178 appearances for the Merseyside club, despite being there for six years.

Various injuries prevented Lallana from really fulfilling that potential, with Klopp, fans and the player himself certain to be really disappointed with his overall time at the club.

But the Anfield faithful do hold him in high regard, and are fully aware of what could have been had he stayed fit.

Just 22 goals and 22 assists were recorded by Lallana for the Reds, but he certainly brought much more than that when fit.

Fortunately, like Henderson, silverware did go his way at Anfield as he lifted the Premier League and Champions League trophies.

The Ajax man meanwhile hit the headlines recently after missing out on Gareth Southgate’s England Euro 2024 squad, a decision that stunned Gary Neville.
