Report: Chelsea have now enquired about signing £63m player but face one problem

Chelsea could splash the cash this summer to improve their backline.

The Blues have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham to strengthen their central defence, though the 26-year-old cost them nothing after arriving on a free transfer.

Chelsea now seem to be focusing in on bringing in a new centre-forward.

It was recently claimed that the club have broadly agreed a deal with Aston Villa to sign Jhon Duran.

Once that new striker is brought through the door, it is not impossible that Chelsea turn their attention back to their defence.

Chelsea make enquiry to sign goalkeeper

Chelsea currently have Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic in their squad, and it has been reported that Enzo Maresca really likes the former.

However, Chelsea are still being linked with goalkeepers.

According to Mundo Deportivo, they have made an enquiry about signing Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro.

The same outlet states that Remiro has a €75m (£63.4m) release clause in his contract and that the 29-year-old wants to stay at his current club, though.

The above, especially the player’s stance, could be a problem for Chelsea.

Will Chelsea sign Alex Remiro this summer?

Remiro’s stats in La Liga last season were pretty good.

As per FBref, the Spaniard kept 15 clean sheets and recorded a save percentage of 76.2%, putting him in the top three goalkeepers for that statistic.

But again, Chelsea have Sanchez and Petrovic, with Maresca seemingly happy to work with Remiro’s compatriot.

£63m is also a lot of money to spend on a shot-stopper.

Based on how Remiro performed during the 2023/24 La Liga campaign, he could be a good signing for Chelsea this transfer window.

However, considering all of the above, it would be a surprise if the Spain international ended up moving to Stamford Bridge. It is probably not a transfer Chelsea fans should be expecting to happen for the time being.
