‘Big talking point’: Micah Richards says why he felt ‘sad’ watching Phil Foden for England tonight

Micah Richards has revealed why he felt “sad” watching Phil Foden for England in their 1-0 victory against Serbia.

Jamie O’Hara slated Foden for his quiet display, stating that he is “ineffective” when he plays for the Three Lions.

Prior to the contest, Roy Keane claimed that the 24-year-old will deliver wherever he plays for England.

Micah Richards makes “sad” claim about Phil Foden

However, Manchester City’s number 47 did not look at his brilliant best on Sunday night.

The City midfielder, renowned for his eye for goal, creative spark and technical brilliance showcased none of these qualities.

Instead, the Stockport-born midfielder had a game to forget, much like another attacking player in Harry Kane for his country.

After England beat Serbia, Micah Richards had his say on how Foden played on BBC Sport (16/06/2024, 10:20 pm).

“The big talking point for me was Phil Foden. He wasn’t involved, at Man City we know it’s choreographed but it makes me sad when I see a player like this on the periphery of games.”

Phil Foden will be hoping to bounce back against Denmark after Serbia display

Like Micah Richards, several fans and pundits alike would have hoped for a vintage display from Foden against Serbia as England huffed and puffed their way to a win.

With the pressure on the Englishman to replicate his form at the Etihad Stadium for his nation, regardless of the reasons at play for his poor performance, it is unlikely that he will be spared for such showings.

Elite sport is unforgiving, especially when supporters are hoping for their country to go for glory.

With that in mind, Foden will be hoping to bounce back against Denmark.

The decorated attacker has until Thursday to reflect on where he could improve and rest ahead of the game.

The top players react to adversity in style and the hope remains that Foden does as well as England will face a Denmark side who could prove to be a potential banana skin for them.
