Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer sends Josh Windass a 15-word message amid exit speculation

Carlton Palmer has congratulated Josh Windass despite recent speculation of his Sheffield Wednesday exit.

Josh Windass’ future at Sheffield Wednesday is in huge doubt, having opened contract talks with the club after they avoided relegation last month.

The midfielder was one of a number of players out of contract this summer, and his heroics at the end of the campaign had earned him a fresh offer.

Recent reports had claimed he was closing in on a contract extension with the club, however talks appear to have since crumbled and it is now believed he has turned down the latest offer.

With the likes of Hull City and Coventry interested in signing Windass, it is now believed that he could be on his way out of Hillsborough after four-and-a-half years.

While the 30-year-old is yet to decide where he will be playing his football next term, he turned his attention elsewhere over the weekend as he got married on Rhode Island, USA.

Windass could well be on his way out of Sheffield Wednesday, but that didn’t stop Owls legend Carlton Palmer from wishing him well following his big day.

Palmer wrote on X: “Congratulations Josh I wish you and your wife all the future happiness in the world.”

The likes of Liam Palmer and Callum Paterson were in attendance at their wedding, having formed great relationships with the midfielder during their time together at Hillsborough.

Wednesday are weeks away from their return to pre-season training and Windass’ future will surely need to be decided by then.

The midfielder’s contract situation is a real concern

After netting three goals in the final three games of the campaign, it came as no surprise that the club were eager to tie him down to a new deal.

It had previously looked like he would, but the apparent collapse of the deal is a real concern for the Owls – especially after seeing Will Vaulks leave the club too.

Windass could well join another club in the Championship and that may mean competing against him if they are to push further up the table next term.

Wednesday need to do everything they can to keep hold of him, but they also need to ensure that it isn’t a saga that lasts all summer, only for them to end up with no replacement when he rejects yet another contract offer at the end of the window.
