'A lot like': Wolves told they have a player in the mould of Edinson Cavani, but he wants to leave

Wolves have been told they actually have one player who is in the mould of Edinson Cavani, but it’s likely he won’t be at the club much longer.

It is expected there will be several outgoings this summer at Molineux.

It perhaps won’t be on the same scale as last summer, when Wolves really needed to balance the books to stay on the right side of PSR.

But the goal is to become self-sustaining, and Fosun are likely going to be hearing offers for several players this summer.

The expectation is that the ‘big’ sale this summer will either be Pedro Neto or Rayan Ait-Nouri. Then, a number of smaller sales will be made.

And one man who’s set to be one of those smaller sales is Fabio Silva, a player his own agent thinks extremely highly of.

Silva joined Wolves in the summer of 2020 and his transfer to Molineux is going to go down as one of the worst in the club’s history.

He has been unlucky at times, and he never chose his £35 million price tag.

But Silva has done very little to convince he can be a long-term option at Wolves, with the player having three loan spells during his time at the club.

Silva won’t be a long-term option for Wolves, not after what he said recently.

The 21-year-old has said that it is no secret he wants to leave the club, and he also said that he never even really wanted the move in the first place.

His agent Carlos Oliveira has given a new interview to Italian outlet TMW, stating that his client has interest from Bologna and Fiorentina.

He also compared the youngster to one of the game’s great strikers of recent times while also making a really bold prediction. He said (via TMW): “I think he’s a lot like Edinson Cavani or Diego Forlan.

“If he finds the right environment, I think he can, when he’s 24/25 years old, he can become one of the best strikers in Europe.”

Silva needs fresh start and to forget Wolves move ever happened

Silva needs to be sold this summer as that is the best outcome for all parties.

Wolves will have to cut their losses, and need to get the player off the books because he has high wages of around £80,000 per week.

There just hasn’t been enough evidence to keep hold of him, and clearly Gary O’Neil did not really rate him while he was still at Molineux in the first half of 2023/24.

Silva needs to go to a new league that is more suited to what he’s about.

Fans will likely get a laugh out of his agent comparing him to the likes of Cavani and Forlan. But that said, one of Cavani’s best traits was his movement, and that was arguably the best trait Silva has shown since coming to England.

He will, of course, do extremely well to ever get anywhere near the level of the Uruguayan legend, though.
