Report: What Sandro Tonali is now intending to do at Newcastle United next season

It might be a cliché, but Sandro Tonali will be like a new signing for Newcastle United next season.

The Italian midfielder will not have to miss many more Newcastle United games due to suspension, with his ban for betting due to end on August 27th.

That should mean he only misses the first two Premier League games of the season, with the fixtures for the 2024/25 campaign set to be released on June 18th.

For Sandro Tonali, next season is going to be a fresh start at St James’ Park. His debut campaign was a disaster, with the 24-year-old limited to just 12 appearances in all competitions.

He became Newcastle’s second most expensive signing ever last summer, and his debut against Aston Villa suggested he was going to have a transformative impact on Tyneside.

But that was a bit of a false dawn for Tonali, who showed it would take time for him to settle in England.

Soon after, settling in England was the least of his worries, with the Italy international receiving a 10-month ban for betting.

What Sandro Tonali wants to do at the start of next season for Newcastle

Tonali basically missed his entire first season at St James’ Park, meaning there is a lot of pressure on him to make his second season count.

Luckily, it sounds like he is planning to do exactly that.

That is according to the Chronicle, who report that club sources have told them that Tonali wants to pay back the fans and the staff for sticking by him during what has been an incredibly challenging period of his life.

They add that he is hoping to put in some strong performances at the start of the season, as he aims to pay back the debt that he feels he owes.

Sandro Tonali will return as an even better player

When Tonali first arrived, it was clear he was special. But it was also clear that it would take him time to adapt to Premier League football and how Eddie Howe wants to play. On top of that, there was the language barrier as well.

However, this ban has given him time to get over these obstacles. Tonali’s English has improved, while Howe has noted how good the former AC Milan player has looked in training.

Being able to continue training with Newcastle has been a blessing for Tonali, as it has allowed him to remain focussed on his comeback. The coaches have been making sure he is ready to go when his suspension comes to an end, and it could lead to some spectacular performances in black and white.

That will be the hope, as Tonali arrived with a lot of hype and excitement. That hype has changed to support, with Toon fans continuing to sing Tonali’s name despite being banned.

That will have meant a lot to Tonali, who is planning to have an immediate impact when he is finally allowed to play again.
